The Greater Bethesda-Chevy Chase community stretches from the District of Columbia (DC) line to beyond the Capital Beltway. It is comprised of the communities of Bethesda, North Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Friendship Heights. With a population of more than 115,000, 3 public high schools, 7 post offices, 5 Metro stops, more than 10 hotels and countless restaurants serve the area. Located just north of Washington, DC, in Maryland's Capital Region, Bethesda is a culturally active city boasting a number of arts venues, galleries and special events. Bethesda's arts and entertainment district offers award-winning theater and independent films, an artist market and galleries displaying pottery, sculpture, photography and mixed-media items. Fine art and crafts are celebrated at the Bethesda Fine Arts Festival in May, which brings together over 100 of the nation's best artists and gives visitors a chance to sample local cuisine. In April, Bethesda attracts novelists, poets, journalists and children's authors for the Bethesda Literary Festival, an event featuring activities and workshops for visitors of all ages. Thursday evenings and Friday afternoons during May, June and July, the city hosts a summer concert series showcasing local and regional musicians playing styles ranging from jazz to rock to blues. For other arts performances, visitors can check out the Round House Theatre and the Imagination Stage.
Public Transportation Information
The Bethesda-Chevy Chase area is served by the WMATA Metro (subway) system. With three stops alongMetro’s Red Line, Bethesda is easily accessible from throughout the Washington area. In addition, there are two public bus systems—Metrobus and Ride-On—serving the entire Bethesda, North Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Friendship Heights corridor.

AHCMC provides arts and humanities funding through individual and organization grants and also leverages support by developing public/private partnerships with local businesses, schools, and community organizations.

Located in Woodmont Corner, the MYB has a comprehensive training program for over 650 children and over 1000 adults each year.
